Home / Ingrown hairs and razor bumps
Stop the bumps where they start.
Ingrown hairs and razor bumps come from curly hair growing back into the skin. Laser treats the hair at the follicle, so there's less of it left to grow back in.

Shaving and waxing leave a sharp tip on the hair. Curly or coarse hair bends back as it grows and pushes into the skin beside it. Your skin treats it like a splinter, and you get a bump.
It's most common on curly hair and darker skin, and a closer shave usually makes it worse.
Why laser helps
Laser treats the follicle itself. Over a series of sessions there's less hair, and finer hair, so there's less left to curl back in.
On deeper skin, Crystal uses the Nd:YAG laser, which passes through skin pigment to reach the follicle. How the laser is chosen

And the dark marks they leave?
Razor bumps often leave dark spots behind once they heal. Laser deals with the hair, not the marks.
For the marks, Crystal offers facials and peels for dark spots and uneven tone. Many clients pair the two, and your consult can cover both.

Ingrown hair questions
Can laser really help razor bumps?
Yes. Razor bumps come from hair growing back into the skin. Laser treats the follicle, so over a series of sessions there's less hair, and finer hair, left to grow back in.
Is it safe on dark skin?
Yes, with the right laser. The Nd:YAG's longer wavelength passes through skin pigment to reach the follicle, and it's the standard choice for deeper skin.
How many sessions does it take?
Most clients need 8 to 12 sessions, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart, because hair grows in cycles.
What should I do between sessions?
Shave the area the day before each visit. Skip waxing, plucking and tanning between sessions, since laser needs the hair's root in place.
What about the dark marks?
Those are a separate concern from the hair. Facials and peels can help even out tone, and Crystal can suggest a plan for both at your free consult.
