Laser removes hair by heating the dark color in the hair. Darker skin has more of that color too, so the wrong laser can heat your skin along with the hair. That's how people end up with burns or dark spots.
Safe treatment of darker skin depends on several things, but the two most important are the right laser and a provider who knows how to use it. Not every laser is designed for deeper skin tones, and not every technician is experienced with the ones that are. Crystal has both the equipment and the expertise to treat every shade of skin with care.
Her machine, the GentleMax Pro Plus, has two FDA-cleared lasers in one: one for lighter skin and one made for darker skin. Both cool your skin as they work.
At your free consult, Crystal looks at your skin and your hair, then picks the laser and the settings that are safe for you.

Shave the area the day before. Skip waxing, plucking and tanning, and tell us about any medication that makes your skin sun-sensitive.

Most clients describe it as a quick snap against the skin, with cooling built into the laser. Small areas take just a few minutes.

Between sessions
Hair grows in cycles, so sessions are spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. Most clients need 8 to 12 to get the result they want.

Laser questions
Is laser safe for dark skin?
With the right laser and settings, yes. The Nd:YAG's longer wavelength passes through skin pigment to reach the follicle, and Crystal sets it for your skin at your free consult.
How many sessions will I need?
Most clients need 8 to 12 sessions, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. Hair grows in cycles, and laser only reaches the hairs that are in their growing stage at each visit.
Is it permanent?
Laser gives permanent hair reduction. Most of the hair stops growing back, and what does return is usually finer and lighter. Results vary by person. For removal that's truly permanent, electrolysis treats one follicle at a time.
Does it work on gray or blonde hair?
No. Laser needs pigment in the hair, so gray, white, blonde and red hair don't respond. Electrolysis works on any hair color.
Does it hurt?
Most clients describe it as a quick snap against the skin. The laser cools the skin as it works, and small areas are done in minutes.
